About Susan Gulla-O`Leary

I approach my sculpting with reverence and meditation. I choose a stone to sculpt by inspiration. Looking into the stone, a clear perception of what subject lies within emerges. In spite of the hardness of stone, I bring to life its hidden image, beauty and spirit. `When you view my art, know that it is only my masterful interpretation and expression of the artful beauty God created.`.

Exhibition History of Susan Gulla-O`Leary

She has taken part in many group exhibitions, participated in art symposiums at the Elisabet Ney Museum, Majestic Ranch Arts Foundation, the La Piazza Italian Art Festival at Laguna Gloria Museum and more. Susan studied under Ulmer Rachman, CEO of the Majestic Ranch Arts Foundation and stone carving teacher of sculpture. Rachman had a philosophy that creativity is essential to well being and sculpture provided a meaningful balance in his life

Biography / CV of Susan Gulla-O`Leary

Susan Gulla-O`Leary was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Austin Texas as a child, where she grew up.
She expresses her versatility of artistic talent in various mediums and techniques. She currently lives in Austin, Texas where she continues her artwork and makes time to share her talent with others by teaching sculpture and painting in her private studio.
Her portfolio consists of watercolour and oil paintings, life size and miniature portraiture as well as three dimensional figurative pieces in stone and bronze. She has taken part in many group exhibitions, participated in art symposiums at Elisabet Ney Museum and is currently studying under Rachman Ulmer at Majestic Ranch Arts Foundation. Her sculpture, Brother and Sister was commissioned by the Austin Children`s Shelter, to be presented at the shelter`s award ceremony to their top 5 donors. Susan`s sculptures were recently accepted by an International Marketing Firm, and are available for sale at the most prestigious sculpture houses around the world.
Susan`s work emotionally transcends its medium. The observer can see, feel and discover the art for what it is a spiritual adventure, and expression of her passion and love for art.
Creating original art in much of the same spirit as the old masters, she combines her artistic talent with the use of complicated elements and skilful application to create a multi-level piece of art. O`Leary explores colour, light, composition, local tone, shade and detail to bring the joy of art closer to the observer.
Her work is vibrant with a purity of fluency that calls up emotions and embraces the senses.
The world of trees, shrubbery, grasses, shadowy skies, clearings and meandering roadways, is full of emotions and sounds of nature, both distant and nearby. Her paintings are universal and thought-provoking. They are common scenes that often project a specific atmosphere and thought.
This artist is inspired by God`s overwhelming beauty in nature. She uses her talent to channel beautiful but fleeting images of nature onto canvas. Much thought goes into selecting scenes. She chooses images that pulsate light and shadows, colours, and pull together the energies between heaven and earth. Glorious natural visions are always being created but then they vanish while the rhythm of life continues. Susan successfully captures the spiritual remoteness and closeness with nature in her paintings. They awaken personal and the deepest thoughts, memories, joy and sadness within. With Susan Gulla-O`Leary`s works, we feel the truth of art a peaceful mind, quietness and memories.
Without a need for consulting art theory, using only sensibility, she reaches the observers mind. Her art triggers the primal senses and provides the observer the freedom to find a part of them in the scenes that depict ordinary places of nature, just a moment on the everyday road of life. A quote from Susan: "When you look at my art, know that it is only my masterful interpretation and expression of the artful beauty God created.".
